Digipak Research (Part II)

From the research we have done, we believe to follow the conventions of what we've seen, (incorporating an air of mystery and a lack of distinct image of the band, with elements of gothic and modern imagery) we plan to use a still image from a shot we were planning on using in the music video itself as well; we plan to have a silhouette of the actor playing 'Robert Smith' in our video in the foreground, blowing out smoke with a sunset painting the sky in the background. We thought this on the front cover of the Digipak because initially it is a striking image, yet vague. Enough to draw a passer by in for it's unusualness. We also decided that the actor blowing out smoke was a sign of things like exasperation, tiredness, and giving up, all of which the lyrics of 'Not in Love' allude to.
Unlike Crystal Castles themselves, on their sophomore eponymous album, we will however feature text on the cover, in white text within the dark silhouette, with the band's name, the featuring artist's name and the song title. We will use the same font Crystal Castles use on their releases and varying media, Futura Bold Italic.
On the back of many electronic/with house digipaks we found they were scarcely decorated and typically a simple block colour/patterned background with an over-layed tracklisting. We wanted to break away from this tradition and follow the more indie-style and use another image on the back. we chose a a long shot of 'Crystal Castles' and 'Robert Smith' standing on a hill/grassy bank/wall partly silhouetted against the same sky as the front cover.
The insert within is to feature another still from the video, of 'Robert Smith' sat fully clothed in a bath, as it is a climactic scene within the video and we thought it would be relevant and aesthetically appealing to open the digipak to.
We believe that this design would sell the band in a way not unlike they themselves are being sold currently, following the conventions of witch house, yet adventurous and experimental as they are.
